Good Morning
Its that time again to kick off campaign season. I announced that I am running for National Judge Advocate this year and when we gather in Billings Montana, a vote will be made and I am asking for your support.
There is no doubt that experience here is a big factor when weighing out your options on who you will support. Let me first start that off with some experience I have. In Billings I will start my 4th year as NVC for the NWDIV, before that I had 2 years as an assistant NVC. I am currently the only candidate that is a voting member of the Board of Trustees (BOT)
We all know that the NJA position is one that requires one to be impartial and fair. I have been JA at both the Detachment level and the Department level. I have been involved with many grievances and the unfortunate disciplinary chapter 9 actions between the petitioner and respondent. Just like Lady Justice, we must look at those cases with a blindfold holding a set of scales. Fair and impartial.
I have also sat in on and voted on cases that are appealed to the BOT. Same rules apply. As NJA I also feel that looking at past case rulings while adjudicating a current chapter 9 filing is important to the NJA so we remain consistent with our procedures and policy's. My plan if elected, is to sort and file past cases for easy access.
As the NJA you also have another role and that is to review contracts by outside vendors or company's. I currently work for the City of Spokane in the Engineering department and work under and review contract documents ranging from $50,000 to $5,000,000. A plus when going into the NJA position. The NJA also votes as part of the BOT on many items that are brought to us. Again I have this experience in my current role on the BOT.
Lastly. We as the voting members, meet on a monthly telcon call to discuss current action items and vote on them. They could include future business modeling or BOT appeals cases. I am the only candidate who has this type of exposure and experience currently serving.
During the week at Billings, I will be talking with as many members possible and share why I feel like I'm the best choice for the position of National Judge Advocate. I also ask that you share this email to all your members in your Department. My campaign slogan is "For the good of the League" and by sharing we are upholding that premise and it has been my honor to say that anything I have done as been for the good of the league.
Please feel free to follow my campaign social media page on Facebook. Just type for the good of the league in the search bar. If you would like you can also go to mcl-nwdiv.org. Both sites will be updated regularly and I will be posting a video soon as a supplemental to my Bio which I have attached for your review and distribution.
Thank you again and may we as the leadership of the MCL, do it for the good of the league.

At the 2019 National Marine Corps League Convention in Billings, Montana, you will be electing your next National Judge Advocate.  I would like to take this opportunity to announce my candidacy for the position of National Judge Advocate and the opportunity to serve you and the entire Marine Corps League. I am asking for your support and confidence as the League moves forward in the years to come. After fulfilling the duties and responsibilities as a member of the National Board of Trustees as the National Vice Commandant of the Northwest Division for almost 4 years, my experience and leadership has prepared me as your next National Judge Advocate.

In my opinion, the National Judge Advocate position is one of the most important positions in the League. I have the experience at the Detachment, Department, Division, and National levels needed to fill this position. I have been Detachment JA and Commandant; the Department of Washington JA, Jr Vice Commandant, and Sr Vice Commandant; two years as the Assistant National Vice Commandant; and in August 2019, I will have entered into my fourth year as the National Vice Commandant of the Northwest Division. I currently serve as the National Funeral Honor Guard Committee Chairman as well as serve on the committee for the M4L program assisting others transitioning out of the Marine Corps. I am also the POC for the Marine Corps League for the Gary Sinise Foundation.

My intent is to be extremely proactive in this position, not reactive. This position will require me to make rulings on the Bylaws and Administrative Procedures in the best interest of the League and each member.  Understanding and processing the Chapter Nine cases is extremely important. I have worked Department Chapter Nine cases as well as heard numerous Chapter Nine appeal cases to the National Board of Trustees. If I am your choice for the National Judge Advocate, I promise that I will always be fair and impartial. There is no room in this League for a good ole boy system nor is there room for favoritism.

As a Detachment, Department, and National officer of the MCL, my leadership style has centered around two important elements. As a cornerstone of my leadership, I consistently strive “to leave my office better than I found it” and everything I accomplished was for the “Good of the League.” I have always strived in making any office better than when I took it over. It’s always about moving forward. This League is a stream, not a pond. We have to constantly change to make it better or we will not survive.

For the Good of the League. This may be my slogan for the campaign, but it’s been my slogan for my entire time while in the League which begin in 2003. The things we do in the League must be for the good of the League. Not for the good of me or you, but for the good of the entire membership. “Good for the League” is a phrase in our Ritual Manual during our monthly meetings. We must always STRIVE for the good of the League.

I am a PDD in the MODD. I have served in all the positions at the Pound level including Pound keeper. I have sat in most of the elected positions at the Pack level and am now the Sr Vice Pack leader for the Pack of Washington. Woof woof to all my dogs out there!

I look forward to talking with each Division caucus at the National Convention. Most of the membership who know me know that I’m a straight shooter. I have never been a bobble-head. I welcome critical thinking. I like to use the quote by the comedian Ron White, “sometimes I have the right to remain silent, but I don’t have the ability.” This statement makes me laugh but if you have a group that just shakes there head every time a question is ask of them, you can end up on the wrong side of an issue.

In closing, I would like to say thank you for your consideration to be your National Judge Advocate. Feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions or go to the Northwest Division website (mcl-nwdiv.org) to see my biography. There will be updates and more as we move on to the National Convention in Billings.
